Spider blood found in 20 million year old fossil

"Two droplets of blood, technically known as haemolymph, have been preserved in the amber which also contains the spider – Filistatidae – a family commonly found in South America and the Caribbean.

The droplets are the first identified examples of spider blood ever found in an amber fossil. It is possible the blood could be used to extract DNA.

The fossil, which is 4cm long and 2cm wide, was discovered in the Dominican Republic and dates back to the Miocene period."

Palm Should Make Windows Mobile Handhelds?

In the Brighthand article below. Thoughts are given on why it's a mistake for Palm to not make Windows Mobile Handhelds

"During this week's press conference, Ed Colligan, Palm's CEO, kept emphasizing that the Windows Mobile Treo is intended to reach a new market, not cannibalize his company's current one.

This is because, for whatever reason, some people and companies will never buy a Palm OS smartphone.

What Palm needs to accept is that the same is true for its handhelds.

Putting out a version of the LifeDrive running Windows Mobile would attract many new customers who wouldn't consider getting the Palm OS version, bringing additional revenue to Palm. "

Arctic Ice Gone With In A Century?

Wow, if the Polar Ice Caps melt then we really would be saying goodbye to New Orleans.

Researchers from NASA and the US National Snow and Ice Data Centre (NSIDC) have warned that the arctic ice cap could completely disappear within a century, after a satellite survey this summer revealed ice cover was at its lowest level ever.

Sea ice coverage was just 2.06m square miles, the scientists said, which is around 20 per cent below the average cover at this time of year in the 1970s. This is low enough to put many arctic species, including the polar bear, at risk.

$100 Latop Closer To Reality

The Media at MIT showed off a laptop computer that they expect to be distributed to students. The machine had an AMD 500MHz processor and 1GB of memory and ran on the linux operating system. It also can be charged by winding it up if you dont have a power source nearby.

"This is the most important thing I have ever done in my life," Negroponte said on Wednesday during a presentation at Technology Review's Emerging Technologies Conference at MIT. "Reception has been incredible. The idea is simple. It's an education project, not a laptop project. If we can make education better--particularly primary and secondary schools--it will be a better world."

PSP: Burnout Legends Review

"Overall Burnout Legends is a great PSP title. It is another port - of sorts - but its use of older games makes its content seem fresher than other ports that have hit the handheld early in its life. As a game to pick up and play every now and again or to play with friends, Burnout Legends can't be beaten on the PSP."
